Rachel
To my friends at NHS,
Just wanted to let you know how I am doing in my new home. I like it here…I get to stay inside in the air all the time, lie on the couch or the cool tile floor, and sleep beside my new Mommy’s bed. I go outside in the huge back yard to play often (only if someone is outside with me…of course). I have been rolling in that nice green grass, scratching my back and enjoying the air.
I have 2 other doggie friends here. Both are cocker spaniels. The puppy is a little annoying, but my big growl has finally started making her just ignore me and go play with her other friends. The “king of the house” Jake thinks he rules everything! Mom is trying to make us both understand that she loves us all. For the most part, we all get along.
Now, the cats…..that’s different! I like to chase them if they scurry around the floor. I don’t bother them when they are up on stuff, but boy they look good running! Salt, pepper, anyone? Mom makes me stop, but if she isn’t looking….ANYWAY! They hide under the couch when Mom leaves, so they are safe. I promise to work on being better at this, and I have improved. I know, cuz Mom said I couldn’t stay here if I didn’t shape up!
We go on nice walks and I do behave. I know sit, down, stay, heel and come. I heard Mom tell someone that I have perfect manners. That must be the part where I don’t jump on people, lick them, or get on the furniture while they are visiting! Mom tries to reward me for this perfect behavior, but I don’t really like anything other than my food. And speaking of food, I need to put on a few pounds! I am eating lots to help me get strong again!
All in all, it has been a long road to get home. I am better from my heartworms (thanks to you guys) and Mom says it will be okay. Jake had them too when she rescued him, and he is the happiest boy around! I get brushed about 30 minutes a day and my coat is all shiny now. I get lots of love and kisses. Mom says my heart doesn’t have to hurt anymore, from heartworms or loneliness. I think she is right! I think this forever home thing is gonna work.
Thanks for taking such great care of me while I stayed at your shelter. I wouldn’t be alive without people like you! Mom says you guys are the best around and she tells everyone about you. So, don’t worry, I am happy and loved! I will send you an update later on, too. Please keep finding my friends great homes. Every animal should have it as nice as I do now!
Your gentle giant friend….Rachel
