Lindy

December 12, 2005
It was about a year ago that my blue point himmy “disappeared”….even though I have three golden retrievers who more than fill any holes in my life, and another himmy whom I have had for many years…this cat left a very large void in my life….and I missed him. My friend, Jay, and I, were down at Regency Square Petsmart –knowing a Pet adoption was going on that day. I was just curious and wanted to just “walk around to see what was there”….hoping that I would fall in love with some little kitty who needed a home.
We walked around and visited all the different humane societies, shelters, and Cats Angels, who all were kind to us in letting us pick up any animal to see how they reacted to people, and just allowed us to be curious. We kept gravitating toward the Nassau County group cages and their selection of cats, since they were really our “home” society. I was carefully watching a small, sleek black beauty….which I thought would fit into my household extremely well….I was looking for a delicate, small cat. And I wanted a black one. There is something special about black cats…some have short, thick, luxurious fur…and others, silky. You can always tell a healthy black cat….their fur just shines.
I kept going back to this petite beauty, who was so calm…all these people were petting her and wanting to hold her….I was getting quite anxious that someone else may choose her before I had a chance to do so. As soon as she was back into her cage, I took her and went to the table saying I wanted to adopt her…..her name was Lindsey at the time….they told me she was about 4 months old. Boy…that IS a kitten! My friend, who wasn’t looking for a new cat, ended up adopting a calico named Heather, who would fit into his home and lifestyle.
As we both brought our new “purr-buckets” to our respective homes, as any owner can attest, it didn’t take long for them to establish themselves and tell us the rules. Lindsey became Lindy, with three large dogs, and one cat already in the household. She never batted an “eyelid” about all those “other” animals in the house….she has definitely become my “Velcro kitty”. She is always with me…and at night is her favorite time is when watching TV together. She can be ound sleeping on my lap, until I have to disturb her to get up.
Heather, now named Maggie, is settled in a male dominated household with another wonderful male kitty named Simba…who is her constant companion, making the human who lives there a bit miffed when he is ignored by Maggie being more interested in Simba.
We both (and all the animals in our care) thank the wonderful volunteers and shelter staff for their excellent care and nurturing until we were able to adopt them into our lives and their forever homes.
