Freeway

Freeway

Hi!  My name is Freeway.  I am one of the lucky few homeless dogs who have found a Furrever Home.  This is my story:

I was brought in to the Nassau Humane Society on February 22, 2008 by a gentleman who said he found me on the side of a highway (hence my name, Freeway).  I was tired, weak, and malnourished (I only weighed 7 pounds).  All of my ribs were showing and my abdomen was bloated from malnutrition and worms.  I could hardly walk I was so weak.  My front paws would give out from underneath me whenever I tried to walk.  The nice people at the humane society treated me and showed me love.  They found me wonderful foster parents to look after me until I was strong enough to find my furrever home.

I went to a home where I nursed back to health.  Once I was stronger, I was able to play with my foster brother and sisters, Max and Lady (Snoopy is older and really doesn’t like to play).  Lady has taken me under her wing.  She is teaching me all of the doggie ropes.  We also play a lot together.  I also learned there are animals called: cats.  Some of them aren’t so nice (they can hiss and swat at a guy, just for saying hello).  But others are friendly.  Sebastian is a really nice guy.  We give each other kisses.

I have a really big fenced yard where I can run and play.  I even have a swimming pool.  I love to fetch my water toys (but I’m only allowed to use the pool when my foster parents are there).  I have lots of toys to play with.

I’ve learned there are a lot of rules a doggie needs to know.  Now how is a guy supposed to remember so many things?  But my foster parents are teaching me basic doggie obedience.  They say it will help me find a nice home.  They are even taking me to obedience school.  I love going to school.  I have a great teacher.  Her name is Miss Amber.  I enjoy meeting the other dogs.  I’ve even found myself a girlfriend.  But don’t mention that around Lady, she’d get upset.  I don’t want to hurt her feelings.  She is a great mentor and playmate.

The other day my brother, Max and I went to Happy Hour at Petsmart (don’t worry, there was no alcohol there).  I had a great time.  My girlfriend was there also!  They had a bikini/summer outfit contest.  You know what ----- I won!!!!  They say I was dressed in ‘drag’, whatever that means.  All I know is that I looked pretty darn cute.  I had a grass skirt, bikini top, and flower leis around my neck and paws.  Everyone kept telling me how cute I looked!!

I love to go places and meet new people and animals.  My foster parents take me places where they say I’m supposed to find my furrever home.  This really confuses a guy.  You see, I’ve already found my furrever home.  My foster parents just don’t seem to know it yet.  But since I love going places, I play along.  So if they want to take me, I’ll go.  I always have so much fun.  I just need for them to understand that I already found my furrever home.  My doggie guardian angel was really watching over me the day I found my foster (furrever) parents.

Well that’s the story of how I found my furrever home.  Like I said, my foster parents haven’t admitted it yet, but they will ---- they are smart people.  I love them and they love me.
